ArchangelDM Posted September 18, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2017 I picked these up last night and I really like the look of these , for me the green is the typical type used by the Usmc in the field to camo these items. My raider helmet has the exact green on it , it's almost like a waterproofing. Seen this splotch camo before What's your thoughts Dc

Bellumbill Posted September 18, 2017 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2017 Very nice pickup! Any field cammo-ed items I can get I grab. I think these are the Army style leggings rather than USMC issue. Marines often used US Army gear, esp. early in the war, so no reason these couldn't have been issued to a marine. There were several army units that cammouflaged their gear in the PTO as well as marines. Thanks for posting! Very best, Bill K.

ArchangelDM Posted September 19, 2017 Author Share #12 Posted September 19, 2017 Amazing pics guys ! The green on the gaiters looks like the green on my raider helmet so thinking the same paint. Will pull up more photos when they arrive
Blacksmith Posted September 19, 2017 Share #13 Posted September 19, 2017 Only thing I'm sure of Dean, is they are cool! It's not the field camo style I'm used to seeing on USMC gear - which is generally green shapes on top of fabric 'open space'. Kind of like you see in the photo. However, as there was no standard, and it was really individual taste, anything is possible. I will say that the stenciling inside looks like standard USMC stencil. Congrats. pararaftanr2 Posted September 20, 2017 Share #19 Posted September 20, 2017 Typically, Army issue leggins from the period have 8 hooks and 16 eyelets, whereas USMC/USN leggins have 6 hooks and only 6 eyelets and are a bit shorter in length. ArchangelDM Posted September 20, 2017 Author Share #20 Posted September 20, 2017 Typically, Army issue leggins from the period have 8 hooks and 16 eyelets, whereas USMC/USN leggins have 6 hooks and only 6 eyelets and are a bit shorter in length.Agreed , I have a few sets of both. But also typically Marines would get what they where given and can be seen using army gear. In fact when the army landed on some of the pacific islands and the army had crates of gear bought ashore, the marines would often try and get there hands on it. So I'm guessing both is possible , when they arrive I will be basing it on the green colour used and the type of paint. My marine raider helmet has a very typical marine green used which could match the base of these gaiters. Also that tropical green used on the gaiters is typical PTO , I've seen army camo being used that's a lot darker in the MTO and ETO Best Dean
ArchangelDM Posted September 20, 2017 Author Share #21 Posted September 20, 2017 To add the colour as seen on these are typical of the marine core in the pacific
Justin Posted September 20, 2017 Share #22 Posted September 20, 2017 Seems like you are already aware these are without a doubt Marine used island hoping leggings, so no need for anyone else to share their opinion, it won't matter. Enjoy them.
iron bender Posted September 20, 2017 Share #23 Posted September 20, 2017 These very well may have been painted by a Marine in the PTO during WW2, but he didn't use them. Leggings get trashed with any amount of field service, quickly. Especially in a wet environment. This pair is in like new condition
