Market-Garden set up

Hello everyone, this is my attempt to depict a helmet set as may have been used during operation Market-Garden. I paired a plain jane McCord front seam, fixed loop (HS 301 C) with a Westinghouse jump liner. I didn't want to put too much stress on the liner so I didn't jam the net in between the pot and liner. I already posted the first shot a while ago in the introductions page but I made some additional shots for this thread. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Very nice looking setup! I was just flipping through the De Trez book the other morning and saw a wartime photo in which the paratrooper did just as you did - pull the net taught over the liner's edge, rather than inbetween the shell and the liner.

Goed gedaan!

I love the look on those Dutch boys faces.

Freedom after more than 4 years under occupation.

Do you think they love Americans ?

I almost forgot about the look the one trooper is giving his clean cut Lt.

The corporal isn't very sure either.

THey appear to be looking at one of the silk maps......."I'm sure we are right about here"........... ;)

Burning Hazard

Are the khakis 4 hole chincups WWII period?

Yes, they were used in WWII but in the very late stage.

Here is a pic from Operation Varsity taken in March 1945; the paratrooper is wearing a Westinghouse jump liner (cast buckles) a 4 hole chin cup.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments and suggestions. Thanks 36driver for adding the pictures. That look on that troopers face speaks volumes. It only needs George Luz shouting (imitating major Horton) 'What's the G@#!%$n hold up, mister Sobel!

  • 4 months later...

Small adjustment: as was pointed out I now have changed the helmet net to the smaller mesh variant :) It indeed looks more appropriate .
