mortarman Posted September 12, 2017 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2017 I recently stumbled across this story about the famous British pilot and thought that members of the forum would appreciate it. I know it's not U.S Military, so it is posted with prior approval from Tarbridge.
Dogsbody Posted September 12, 2017 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2017 Hi Mortarman, thanks for posting. It's quite funny. For those of you who don't know about Douglas Bader it is well worth reading up about him. Rene

Garandomatic Posted September 12, 2017 Share #5 Posted September 12, 2017 I've got the same story on m bulletin board at school, but attributed to an American pilot!
bobgee Posted September 12, 2017 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2017 A Myth! This is an old story which I first heard 50 years ago + about a Dutch pilot flying with the RAF explaining his heroism to King Geoge VI as he received the DFC. I doubt that Douglas Bader was involved in this tale - But it is funny! Bobgee
38Driver Posted September 12, 2017 Share #7 Posted September 12, 2017 Agreed with Bobgee. Someone attached that to Bader. Not a true story

mortarman Posted September 12, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted September 12, 2017 Here is where I found it. http://www.anorak.co.uk/443750/celebrities/douglas-bader-meets-the-fokkers-an-hilarious-anecdote-from-britains-war-hero.html/ and another that attributes the story to David Niven. www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2016/dec/17/i-used-to-be-unwilling-to-embrace-change-that-changed-with-helens-death
