1881 regulation summer helmet

I've read in various sources that many of the pith helmets seen with brass plates and decorations were not meant to be worn and with them or by an officer who wore them in summer. as such is it safe to assume anytime you see a summer helmet with such fittings it's a gamble what your getting.

Trimming white helmets was common enough by regular soldiers that it had to be addressed...it was never supposed to happen, but it definitely did.
