Officer's Steamer Trunk style Foot Locker. 1st Div. 7th F.A.

Just picked this footlocker up. In pretty good shape, the leather handles are in great condition and the tray is still present. Looks to have a shipping label from Brest, France. I looked the officer up and he lived from 1890-1981. Born in Canada, he later lived in western Washington. Army transport records say he departed New York City July 14, 1918 as a 1st Sgt with Battery A, 346th Field Artillery, 91st Division on the ship Baltic. He departed Brest, France on the Leviathan June 9, 1919 arriving at Hoboken, New Jersey July 5, 1919. At this time he was a 2nd Lt in Battery C, 7th Field Artillery, 1st Division.

Does anyone know what "State Room" would mean? It's on the top of the locker.

Stateroom just means upper deck, where the 1st class passengers berthed in peacetime. As a Lt. he would have shared one with other officers. Nice footlocker, I think I've seen similar ones elsewhere.
