This one was an eBay sleeper! A tag to a true hero.

Officer enlisted as an aviation cadet on October 16, 1942. Became a pilot and was assigned to the 353rd Bomb Squadron, 301st Bomb Group, 15th Air Force as a B-17 pilot.

During a mission to Hungary on June 14, 1944, on the first couple of miles in flight, a mechanical explosion of an engine occurred followed by a gasoline explosion of the left wing. The pilot stayed with the ship in order to give the safest evacuation of his crew.

For his actions, he was awarded the Silver Star. Please read full citation below!

If anyone has access to the MACR I would love to see it!

Nice tag. Surprised I didn't catch it, would've bid (nice work!)

He jumped from the plane, but parachute didn't fully open due to altitude and he died from impact. Not your standard MACR, one of the summaries put together inquiring about his death.

Yeah it was a BIN and I caught it early, so that's probably why.

Thanks for the info on his MACR. I wasn't aware that he made it out of the plane, great info! Thanks!
