Snagged this in a lot with terrible pictures. Believe this to be a 1920s first pattern HH. Could not find an example in either reference book. Any help?

Isn't this the one sometimes referred to as the "dancing eagle". Mate to the early unmarked H-H cap, piece? Nice pick regardless.

In Klie's book, look on page 214 top left grouping: "the "Beast." The collar emblems have the same styling, note the talons. You may have found a gem. If it is a match than you have one of the rear finds, congratulations!

I have heard the term dancing bid but it can be used on quite a few birds out there, but does have that look to the feet.

Nope, those Chinese ones are Darrells and are very different than those on page 214. The ones next to the beast have the closest resemblance to this piece. Wish there were back pictures. Maybe Darrell or Jeff can posts backs if they see this post.

Going off memory. These are different than the typical 1st run H&H or the ones marked Fire Bronze, that are found more readily. Note the softer construction and details of this piece. I believed them to be later 1920s. They can be easily bent, inferior metal compared to Fire Bronze marked. I had a pair with screw posts and don't think I've seen your post back version. Needless to say this style, imo, is very very difficult to find. Post back even harder. Nice find! jeff

My research: Made in service and dress from the 1920's to 1930's, in many different materials, post backed, pinbacked and clutch back. Hardest to find is the dress 10k versions, as these were mainly depression era pieces (normally cheap plating/washes and materials). I believe these are the collar mate to the hat EGA that this forum has dubbed "Beast".
