USN WWII bronze star medal question

If I was looking to represent a WWII navy bronze star received in late 1944, would I look for the thick medal with wrap brooch or is it the same medal as issued to the army? Thanks in advance for the help. The USN specific thick bronze star planchette seem real hard to find.

Finding an unnamed one isn't impossible; you just have to keep an eye out for them. They pop up from time to time on eBay. (As an aside, finding a named Navy Bronze Star is nearly impossible...they are very, very few and far between!)

Good luck!

It's possible that a 1944 USN recipient of the Bronze Star might have received only the ribbon bar at that time. Attached is a pic of a USN officer receiving just the ribbon. I recall seeing similar photos of other award ceremonies.
