I do HVAC work and came across a footlocker in an attic yesterday, I told the home owner that I collect WWII Items and would She mind if I looked in the footlocker.

She said go ahead I forgot that it was still up in the attic,I think there is a gun my husband brought back from Germany,Im not sure if it works, and If I remember its covered in wax??? So this is what I found along with other nice items....A nice Holster 1942 CXB WaA 210 P38 Holster...Inside the Holster was a Browning what I think is a High Power? 9mm Pistol with German Nazi Proof Marks WaA 140,The gun appears that it has never been fired, there is no scratches, rust, pitting or any loss of bluing or holster wear. The gun is packed in grease, its oozing from every opening, and I also found 2 diffent capture papers with the serial numbers.....I asked Her what would you like for the gun..She said I don't know if it even works and I don't want it in my house anymore,so Ill just give it to you..Im very lucky and Thankful!

I would like any information on the gun if possible and should I leave the grease in it or clean it?

Also I intend on taking some money back to Her in good faith.

Do you plan to keep or sell it? If you are selling it, I would suggest you leave the grease in/on it. That would be the ultimate in "mint" condition for a gun collector. If it were mine and I planned to keep it in my collection, I would clean the grease off of it. No fun to look at one if you have to wipe your hands off each time...

Patchcollector

I just did a quick web search and found this info:

There were around 320,000 made under the German occupation of Belgium, and the Nazis used forced slave labor to build a good many of them.

Found some for sale, the asking prices were between approximately 600-1300 dollars.Yours being in such great shape I would think that it's value would be more towards the upper end of the price spectrum.

I think that you should give that lady a big hug and kiss

Very nice find.

Great looking P35/HP35 or some refer to it as BHP(BROWNING HIGH POWER)

Very well made pistol and really well liked by the both the germans and US soldiers who captured them.

I agree with this.

The "grease" is a German version of cosmoline. It was probably applied at the factory to inhibit any kind of corrosion while shipping or in storage.

If you intend to sell it, keep it as is and use this as a selling point.

The capture papers provide provenance (add value). Cleaning will not affect value. Do not store it in the leather holster. The design was used in most of the British Commonwealth Countries(mostly Canada). China also copied the design as they were want to do. All in all a nice find. Now go play the lottery! :D

Thank you all so much for the compliments,I am extremely Thankful for Her generosity,I will be taking care of Her anytime she needs help!

In the trunk was a German Nazi party flag 2 piece, alot of German Solider pictures, one of them has written on the back that it was his prisoner that he had captured,I belive or would like to believe that this might be the German he liberated the pistol from,Ill resize the pictures shortly and get them up.........I also had another awesome find today,A complete WWII Sub Caliber .22 Mortar training kit,I almost didn't look at it because I thought it was considered a destructive devise....but found out no paperwork was needed ,I don't mind sharing it with you all,but I think I should start a new topic on it where it belongs??

I just saw a very similar one with papers walk in to the gun show and was asking $1500. I figure he came out with about $1300 because most of it was in trades. The papers did boost the value.
