Suitcase question - WW2 SeaBee

I can't imagine that suitcase's were issued but what would have been allowed for a SeaBee during WW2. This was my FILs and shows it's age a bit from sun fading, etc. It has the same decal on both sides, we don't have the key (thank goodness it's unlocked). The construction surprised me a bit as it's wood panels and they have been drilled and brass screws are still inside. I assume to mount to a wall of barracks. We have a picture (will try and get it scanned) of him standing with a seabag and this suitcase on Guam ready to ship home. How common or uncommon are these to come across?

Right now it's repacked with several sets of white utilities (rolled as we found them in his seabag), 3 sets of leggings, swim trunks, wool socks, "popeye" hat and a few other misc items.

Have one similiar and seen several over the years.

The one I have is to a local vet and he made his out of wood and painted it blue.Has hiis uniforms in it etc.

Seems many sea bees had these custom or civilian type suit cases in Lieu of the sea bag or for traveling home at wars end.

Thanks for the info doyler. Typical of my FIL to do things a bit different as he had both his seabag and suitcase in the picture we found. Of course we found 2 other seabags packed in the one he used, including one that didn't appear to have ever been unfolded. With the things we have found I think he might have been a bit of a scrounger and I know he was a pack rat and never thru anything away, which is how we came to have all the letters that were written to him while he was in the service.
