Battling Bee 187th Infantry Pocket Patch

Patches, I have two schools of thought on this. I bet this is c. April 1949. Bee is wearing an OD Ike and a WW 2 Pfc chevron. The Bee may represent B Co.....Regt wasn't redesignated RCT until 1 Aug 1950

Other school of thought is German made c. 1957. Lots of American GIs still wearing OD uniforms then. It was an airborne infantry Regt and Companies A, B, C redesignated HHC 1, 2, 3 Battle Groups.

I don't think I have ever seen anything like this before..

Just by looking at the patch, I am seeing a few other possibilities.. If you look at the hands, they almost look like boxing gloves and then below those it looks like the bee is holding a pistol and a knife??

Long shot in the dark, but perhaps this is an unofficial patch for the boxing team members from B Company?? The Battalions and later the Regiment had several of these teams made up of members of the companies, perhaps they had these made for their boxing attire??

I also believe this to be from the 50's..

I will have to look through some of my yearbooks and unit histories, specifically the sports teams and see if there is anything like this..

It is an incredible patch..

Could that be the name of the boxer himself?

I like that idea.. Quite possible..

Will continue to research this...

Looking at this patch a little more, I am focusing on the color of the jump boots.. They appear black and not brown like the Ike jacket.. which would be appropriate with the mid to late 50's time period...

This is really a interesting patch and hopefully we can determine some rock solid evidence..

Keep the thoughts coming everyone so that we can look into all angles and possibilities.. We have some good leads to work with right now...

Looking at it more, it looks like he has a blue Dickie on, is that what there called?

I've heard them referred to as an ascot, in this case I'd assume blue for infantry

Since it doesn't say Airborne in there anywhere, gives me the impression it's post 1957 in the CARS period right, but if so, why then no battle Group or Battalion is mentioned????
