Hi! Hoping a Navy pro can help me out with ID of the two patches this sailor is wearing on his sleeve. What colour is that diagonal stripe? I am collecting for a display about this sailor, and would like to get his rate patch. Thanks!

The one patch is an electrician mate patch. The diagonal patch is I believe the 3 year service has mark for navy and would be red for WWII.

Thanks! Another quick question for you guys. Is this a patch that you can still buy now or do I need to get a WWII era one? Also, any ideas on how much I should find one for? Thanks!

To do it right, you need a WWII one. The chevron and service stripe would be red felt. A single service stripe may be more difficult to find but they are out there. Wouldn't pay more than $20 for the rating patch (look on ebay)

Hi,All! I have this modern Navy patch set from a uniform, and was wondering if this stripe is the modern version of the one on this sailor's sleeve? As I am most likely going to buy the rate patch from Vanguard, I was wondering if this would be the modern match for the service stripe?

That service stripe is the same design as what is used today. If you buy a new rating badge it will match.

You should start a thread to see if anyone here has an EM rating badge. If you needed MM I could hook you up for free as I saved a few from my uniforms.

The service stripe is the fully embroidered version. Used from 1975 until about 1980. Truly disliked. The rating badge is the Vanguard version from about the same time frame. Although the rating badge would have continued in use until the mid 1980s
