Question about ordering from Vanguard

Hi! I couldn't decide where the place to post this was, so I am doing it in Misc. Hoping someone here has ordered from Vanguard online before. I am planning on a new display, and want a modern issue Army Distinguished Service Cross. I haven't decided whether mini or full-size, as I keep going back and forth. However, I am saving up to buy one, but had a question about ordering form Vanguard.

Can you order a full-size medal without having to prove you won it?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Yes. You can order from Vanguard online without proving anything. I recently ordered some ribbons that were missing from one of my old ribbon racks and I have ordered a couple of replacement medals from them in the past.

Thanks! I really appreciate it! I wasn't sure if you could only order medals you won or not. Thanks for the speedy answer!

I restored a uniform to Gen. Ridgway who received the DSC via Marlow White. At first, they asked me for proof of award, but the minute I explained to them the purpose of what I was doing, they were fine with it.

Thanks so much! I never thought of that! I am doing a framed display commemorating a WWII sailor who was awarded the DSC. Now all I need to do is really deciede on mini or full! ;) OT, but out of curiosity . . . did you ever post a picture of your uniform that you did?

My pleasure! I posted the uniform here: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/292049-general-matthew-ridgways-uniform/. There is another post of Ridway's actual mini's (many, many rows!). Unfortunately, I do not have the resources or connections to track down the dozens of foreign awards he received so I opted to just order his top row. I used Marlow White for two sets of minis and one set of ribbons over the years. Every time, they have been incredibly well done and the customer service is very helpful. They are a little expensive, but my reasoning is that each project is a one time deal.

If I may ask, what is the name of the sailor you are honoring? I can't imagine too many sailors earned the Army DSC.

WOW! What a cool thing! I looked at your link, too, and Gen. Goodpastor's uniform is amazing, as well. Imagine having to wear your jump wings practically on your shoulder! Thanks for sharing those pics! Amazing!

The sailor I am doing a display about is Charles Claybourn, who was a POW for several years. It is an amazing story, if you haven't read about him yet! Here is his picture.

I am getting the ribbons for a ribbon rack, and want to include the PH, DSC, and POW medal. Just have to decide whether I can save up for full sizes or go with minis. ;) I think someone on here said that only 4 USN men won the DSC during WWII.

Thanks for the info! I just had a chance to read his citation and it is really amazing. It would be great to see the finished tribute with whatever medals you decide to go with!

Isn't his story amazing! I will definitely post the display when I get it done! This is my first Navy personal "hero", and I am excited about this display! I am happy to find out about Vanguard.

Hello Stratasfan, that is a great photo. Can you tell me where I can find his story? I love to read about all those remarkable men and women but I don't always know where to look .

Good luck with your display and I'd love to see it when it's done.

Scroll down to descendant 6. You'll see his picture!

Also, here is his DSC citation:

I will absolutely post my display when I eventually get it all done! ;)
