Yea this is definitely awesome, Google earth has been a god send in being able to find old camps.

For the most part the grid layouts although overgrown still very much exist and can be seen clearly.

I've looked at a few camps out in California/arizona via GE that Patton used

I believe there's like 11 camps that made up the desert training center and x amount of airfields too

Google earth helps if you have a search area and an idea of what your looking for. After finding a crash site I've gone back to see what they look like on Google earth and unless you went to the crash site and have exact numbers you would never know you are looking at a crash site. They are too small and have a minimal foot print. That camp was the same thing, You have to know what you are looking for,
