Indexred Posted August 3, 2017 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2017 Here’s a 2nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop Ike jacket that appeared in Daniel Blanchard’s 2012 book, Souvenirs de GI’s, 1944-1945 De la bataille de Normandie. The insignia in crewel embroidery are notable, especially the ranger skull. This jacket was originally purchased by a friend of mine at an estate sale in Oklahoma City (circa 1991). He subsequently sold it via Manion’s Auction House, and from there made the jacket landed in Brussels, Belgium, and the collection of Attilio Basso. The jacket was sold again four years ago by Aiolfi auction house in Normandy. Does anybody know it’s present whereabouts? My friend who originally purchased it has a 2nd Division History named to the veteran and would sell it to whoever has the jacket. Perhaps the two items can be reunited. I also have information about one the vet’s Purple Hearts.
carbinephalen Posted August 3, 2017 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2017 The CIB and Ribbons look like they are made out of yarn. Very odd!
QED4 Posted August 4, 2017 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2017 Did anyone else notice that jacket buttons backwards, right over left like a woman's?
Indexred Posted August 4, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted August 4, 2017 Good catch QED4! I hadn’t noticed that the jacket buttons the opposite way of most Ike jackets. As for Phil’s comment about yarn, he’s right. The Indianhead SSI is also in yarn. Here’s a close-up. Sorry about the poor quality. It’s from a photocopy made in the early 1990s shortly after the jacket was purchased from the vet’s estate (more precisely, his widows’ estate). carbinephalen Posted August 6, 2017 Share #5 Posted August 6, 2017 Well it's a tailored, cutdown four pocket (the cuffless sleeves, the gold button at the bottom) The tailor must have reversed the way it buttoned!

Indexred Posted August 11, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted August 11, 2017 Thanks Ron and Thomas for your feedback. Maybe the current owner of the jacket will see this thread, and the garment can be reunited with the vet’s unit history. By the way, only the jacket was purchased at the estate sale. The other items pictured in Daniel's book are add-ons. Also, here's a photo of Mr. Basso who apparently purchased the jacket from Manion's during the 1990s.
