post-169828-0-22694400-1501615557.pngHello everyone. I am completely new to this forum here however I wanted to get some idea on this purchase I recently made. To give it some background I picked this up while on a tour through Normandy, France. I know buying something in a region doesn't mean it comes from there however I think it adds a little something. Anyways, I picked up this bayonet in Sainte Marie du Mont for 145 Euros which is roughly $167 In U.S. dollars. It is a Bowie tip bayonet that was cut down by AFH. I just wanted to know if anyone else here with way more knowledge than me might know more about it and the scabbard it came with. Thanks for the help in advance. I also have a bayonet I picked up from CMP for about a third of the price for this one but I am happy with what I bought here in France.

As far as I can see, everything looks good. Its serial no. probably indicates that it was made in 1907. That year is a little less common than some of the others. Your scabbard is also a cut-down, and looks correct. The price you paid is a little high, but as you said, it was purchased in the Normandy area! I like that. How many of us in the US can say they have an M1 bayonet from Normandy? Enjoy your purchase.

I found the serial number on a website saying it was likely produced around 1907 like you said. I thought the price was a little high but it was worth it to buy it there. He had a other one that looked to be a 1942 model bayonet that wasn't cut down but I chose this one because it looked a little more unique.

I was there back in June and poked around some stores in St.mere Eglise but decided I didn't have enough knowledge to pull the trigger ... Chickened out and really regret it now! Congratulations.

Thanks! I went to the surplus store there in St Mere Eglise but they seemed shady. I wanted to take a picture of their bayonets for advice but they said no. The guy in St Marie du Mont was fine with it and he seemed like a more reasonable guy so I bought that one from him. I almost didn't buy it and had to drive back to get it.
