Appears to be a watch fob, carried by a son of a CW veteran I would assume, neat! only If it could talk. nicknamed the " cumberland plough boys" they also served in the span am war so there could be a vet connection also.

Hi david9,

It is actually a watch fob. The fob was suspended from a black silk lanyard that had a clip for the watch. These were produced for a number of National Guard regiments. Early examples were probably produced when the Guard was mobilized for service on the Mexican border in 1916. These are blank on the reverse except for the name of the manufacturer. Fobs produced after 6 April 1917 have the "American-German War" inscription on the reverse. I have also seen a couple with the Federalized unit designations (104th Machine Gun Battalion, etc.)

Did you find this at a location occupied by the American 30th Division? The 30th Division's 120th Infantry was organized from the old 3rd North Carolina Infantry.

Hi David,

That is very interesting! Would you mind posting photos of the other items you found? I grew up a short distance from where the 30th Division trained before going overseas.

I will post a picture of a complete fob with pocket watch clip in the near future.

Hi David,

Thanks. Can you give me the name and serial number on the ID tag? I can probably locate the soldier's service information. Also, I would be curious to know what is inscribed on the token behind the one USNG disk.
