Costa Posted July 31, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2017 wondering if this is a good wing. front has wear but, the back is ONLY meyer marked, not sterling. feathering is also weak---------- opinions
Costa Posted July 31, 2017 Author Share #2 Posted July 31, 2017 incised marking---------- my opinion it is a cast copy.
Allan H. Posted July 31, 2017 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2017 Mitch, We need to see the whole back please. What does the pin and hinge look like? What I am seeing so far isn't making me think that the wing is going to get any better, but we will see. Allan

B-17Guy Posted July 31, 2017 Share #5 Posted July 31, 2017 Found the auction, wing looks fine to me. May be pre-war as there is not Sterling mark and the wing may be struck from brass. Pin, Meyer shield, all looks good. John
Costa Posted July 31, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted July 31, 2017 thank you guys. and thanks John. here is the full back------------- what got me thinking repro cast was the lack of detail in the feathering.
mghcal Posted July 31, 2017 Share #7 Posted July 31, 2017 The soft feathering in this particular pattern is how they all are. I've never seen a really crisp example and what are probably later sterling only marked examples are 10 times worse than this Meyer example. The die just didn't hold up well. rathbonemuseum.com Posted August 1, 2017 Share #8 Posted August 1, 2017 My opinion is this is a good version of an often copied wing based on the stamping and the findings. Like mghcal says, this was never a quality design.
