For San Francisco, visit Military Antiques & Museum in Petaluma which is about 1 hour away.

In LA,  the American Military Museum-  nearly 180 old vehicles,  tanks, halftracks,  etc.  open Fri to Sunday-- about 10 mile east of LA right off the 60 Pomona freeway and Rosemead Blvd.   Gets a 4.5 out of about 65 google reviews.   If you want to see an Iowa class battleship and a Victory-class cargo ship, then go to the waterfront at the one time Pacific Fleet home of the battlewagons and cruisers during the 20's and 30's at San Pedro, have lunch at the Ports O'Call restaurant and go see the Maritime Museum,  USS Iowa and SS Lane Victory.   Also in San Pedro, the Ft. McArthur Museum.   It's all good, and you'll have a blast.   As far as militaria spots to buy stuff-- google Los Angeles area swap meets-- Long Beach, Rose Bowl etc.
