USAAF Fighter pilot holster

Am putting together gear collections for ww2 fighter jockeys. Need guidance on appropriate types of holsters ww2 pilots would have worn over their flight uniforms as well as flying shoes/boots:

- ETO pilots that would have worn the A-4 flight suit and A-11 leather helmet

- PTO pilots that would have worn the ANS-31 flight suite and AN-15 khaki helmet

Any shared knowledge would be appreciated.

The M3 shoulder holster was widely used.I have also seen the standard Model1916 hip holster worn by pilots in the Pacific

Could the m3 rig handle both 38 and 45 caliber pistols?

There were separate models.

Search Victory shoulder holster and you will see the ones for the 38 revolver.

This photo came in a group I posted from a KIA Navy pilot. They trained together.

Here you see the full flap holster used with the 38 revolver.

.38 was more used by Navy Aviator. The best will be standard .45 in hip holster or custom made shoulder holster.

M3 holster were introduced in mid 1943.

Jerry

Thanks, Jerry. The date for intro of the m3 helps. I have a 1916 and can now feel confident putting it with multiple flight uniforms and flight helmets. May still pick up an m3 if I see a good buy. Seems like the avg EBay price for a good m3 is 90-120 bucks.
