Len S Posted July 22, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 22, 2017 I recently acquired this Colt Detective Special revolver marked with the US ordnance "bomb". I sent away to Colt for the archival letter and discovered that the gun was shipped on March 4th 1943 to Fort Myer in Rosslyn, Va. for delivery to the ordnance officer there. Where it went after that is anyone's guess. The revolver came fro the estate of a gent who join the pre WWII USN as an enlisted man but rose through the ranks to retire as a Lt. Cmdr. in the USNR. He pursued a second career as a security agent for the US Atomic Energy Commission. Here are some pics. Len

kwill Posted July 22, 2017 Share #9 Posted July 22, 2017 Very impressive. As I mentioned on the other forum I'd like to see the back of the holster, if possible. It's too bad Colt misspelled Ft. Myer on your letter but it's not a critical error.
robinb Posted July 22, 2017 Share #10 Posted July 22, 2017 Your serial number is 122 higher than mine.

Len S Posted July 22, 2017 Author Share #12 Posted July 22, 2017 Here's the reverse side pic of the holster kwill. Thanks for posting the Colt letter for the other pistol from the same shipment as mine. Quite a variance in serial numbers for such a small order. kwill Posted July 22, 2017 Share #14 Posted July 22, 2017 You may know this but that is a legit US holster. According to Scott Meadows' book on U.S. Military Holster and Related Accoutrements it was introduced in 1944 and was originally made at Rock Island Arsenal.
