WWII USN film strip B-24 PBY Power Turret

The "film strip" was an interesting bit of tech: it is a roll of several frames of 35mm film that are projected much the same as a normal 35mm slide, albeit on a different style of projector. When I was but a mere child, they still used these in elementary schools, usually accompanied by a vinyl record with narration. Every so often there was a beep on the record, signaling the projector operator to advance to the next slide.

 

This is just a sample of the frames from the USA Navy training film "The Power Turret Part II" I photographed these with my iphone and a light table. There is some great art in this it if you scanned it with a good film scanner it'd make a photo.

There must've been an awful lot of barely literate men enlisted in WWII: having words and images (and sometimes a vinyl record) made these true multi-media presentations conveying the same nformation in a couple different ways.

 

Here's a more mundane topic - cluster welds. Not as cool as a PBY turret, but just as essential:
