Hi everyone.

My name is Dave and I live close to Fort Worth. I’m not a collector of militaria as so many of you are, but I am interested in the history of the 17th Infantry Regiment of the 7th Infantry Division of the US Army in WWII. My father served with this regiment from July 1941 through October 1945, and was discharged as a Master Sergeant. He passed away back in 1975.

I had not looked over the documentation that he had retained for several years, so recently I pulled the folder out of the closet to revisit the content. Aside from his personnel record papers, I have maybe a dozen or so various photos, 10 newsletters written for the troops at Attu, Adak, and Kiska, some newspaper clippings, a report on the battle for Attu written by a Foreign Correspondent, and a few other papers on miscellaneous topics. I found this forum and thought it might be fun to join. I hope to see what additional things I might learn about war in the Pacific as it pertains to the 17th. Like so many soldiers, my dad did not talk about what he saw or experienced. I would like to post some of the items I have and maybe generate some interest and discussion. I’m not sure yet the best way to organize the posts, but I will read the guidelines and look around to figure it out.

Glad to be a part of the forum!

Welcome on board! There a quite a few Texans here. Not all collect. But I guess you could refer to the forum as your private museum. Ha. There are a lot of researchers here too, with genealogy as well. scale molder builders and a host of others. Good luck and have fun. Regards, David

Hi Dave. We're neighbors. I'm in Dallas. My dad was a company commander in the 17th infantry in 68-69, and has spent his life after service researching the 17th from 1814 through today. The regiment has an amazing history. He has the resources to help you as does a fellow member out of Pennsylvania. I can't think of his handle here but hopefully he'll chime in. Feel free to pm me if you'd like.
