Early Acid Etched Marine officers dog tag

This officer was defiantly of the 'Old Breed', enlisting in the marines in 1926. By early 1942, he attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant, while a part of H&S Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division.
He would see action at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and Peleliu. At Peleliu, he was at that point a Major and was WIA on Sept. 16.
Seeing that this tag is T dated 7-42 with his rank of 1st LT (later a Capt. in 10-42), it leaves little doubt in my mind that this was the tag he was wearing when he landed on the canal

I too had two early tags like that to officers who were both pre-war and attached to the 2nd Division on both Guadalcanal and Tarawa. Nice.
