Early M-1 38th Infantry painted liner

This came from an estate sale. It is a 1942 M-1 helmet and painted 38th Infantry painted liner. The owner had transportation collar disks, I think that is the reason it looks so good.

That's a nice helmet you got there and I really like the painted insignia. There also looks to be a laundry number on the strap in the 3rd picture.

Correct, I ran it and tracked him down in San Francisco. He is 94 and his care taker would not allow me to talk to him.

Great 38th Infantry Division helmet! Really cool the vet is still living. Possibly you could write a letter explaining your interest in preserving history and hoping the caretaker would help you out. Of course, at 94, the vet may not be in a condition to be much help. I love 38th ID things!

I have spent hour upon hour on line looking for another one. I think Top Pots has a repop, but they had to have seen one some place to do that.
