P-59A Posted July 13, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 13, 2017 This came from an estate sale. It is a 1942 M-1 helmet and painted 38th Infantry painted liner. The owner had transportation collar disks, I think that is the reason it looks so good.

trenchfoot Posted July 13, 2017 Share #11 Posted July 13, 2017 That's a nice helmet you got there and I really like the painted insignia. There also looks to be a laundry number on the strap in the 3rd picture.
P-59A Posted July 13, 2017 Author Share #12 Posted July 13, 2017 Correct, I ran it and tracked him down in San Francisco. He is 94 and his care taker would not allow me to talk to him.

Brian Keith Posted July 14, 2017 Share #17 Posted July 14, 2017 Great 38th Infantry Division helmet! Really cool the vet is still living. Possibly you could write a letter explaining your interest in preserving history and hoping the caretaker would help you out. Of course, at 94, the vet may not be in a condition to be much help. I love 38th ID things! Thanks for posting! BKW
