JMazzara Posted July 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2017 Hello! I am a 30 year old military spouse, working as a researcher and instructor at Marine Corps University (Quantico). My dissertation is on TBS between the world wars so I am looking for any items or stories pertinent to that era. BUT! So happy to have discovered the forum in general, and I look forward to learning from all of the experts here about other militaria as well. Thanks for having me! Jumpin Jack Posted July 10, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2017 Welcome aboard Jennifer. We probably have much to learn from one another. The expertise here is absolutely amazing. You might consider sharing some photos of the Quantico Museum. I've never been much on acronyms. What does TBS mean? Jack

Fly USMC Posted July 10, 2017 Share #4 Posted July 10, 2017 Jennifer, Welcome Aboard! Jumpin Jack,... TBS = The Basic School,... this is where Newly commissioned Marine Corps Officers go to learn ....The Basics.... such as how to write a Fitness Report, Lead a Small unit in on a patrol, use a map and Compass, Military law, the purpose and function of Marine Air, Etc, Etc, etc Some come into TBS with a specific contract such as Lawyers, but others are really in a competition to select a career field. Also a place where you can meet some life long friends Semper Fi, John

JMazzara Posted July 11, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted July 11, 2017 Thank you, all! I'd be happy to share from the Museum, but there's nothing like a visit in person. They opened the combat photography wing yesterday and the new theatre will open in a couple weeks. Really looking forward to all of the new exhibit being open to the public, it's been quite a construction project to watch.
Kurt Barickman Posted July 11, 2017 Share #7 Posted July 11, 2017 Welcome to the forum. Great to have you here! Although not strictly between the wars, at one time I had probably 25 of the USMC officer graduation class books from Quantico. I think that most had the same training in them for each class. Welcome Jennifer-Sorry for going off conversation with the above remarks! Do you do any personal research on the side? SF Chuck Ticks, Bugs, and Spiders. The dissertation is technically a personal project, but it overlaps heavily with what I do for MCU. Did you mean in addition to that? JMazzara Posted July 13, 2017 Author Share #12 Posted July 13, 2017 Chuck, The group I work for (see my signature for a link) is always involved in research on one project or another. I coordinate our Civil War staff rides in the NOVA area, so off and on I'm poking around in the Official Records. Last year we taught electives on the Baltic (WWI and WWII) and the Falklands War (1982) so I've also looked into those areas. Next spring we plan to teach those two electives plus one on the Fleet Marine Force and one on the Israeli Defense Force's use of maneuver warfare. I don't have any projects outside of work or dissertation, but I'm sure they'll arise someday soon. My sons are just getting old enough to be interested in militaria, especially historical miniatures, so I know my time will come. Jennifer
