usmcski Posted July 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2017 Picked this up at a local thrift shop a few months back. Looks to me like a 1917 Bell Crown, so I'd date it as likely post WWI. I'd love to hear other opinions on it. Fantastic condition, like it was taken yesterday. Quite a pleasant surprise to see it as I was out antiquing one day. Dirk Posted July 9, 2017 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2017 Very nice! Silver Gelatin print dating to the eary 1920's, to a Marine, most likely assoicated with Mare Island. Excellent, clean image. Nice that he chose a photo studio to do a formal photo, vice having one mounted on a real picture postcard (RPPC). These studio shots age better and have better detail then the RPPC format. usmcski Posted July 10, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted July 10, 2017 Ahh, so that explains the silver-bluish tiny, thanks for the explanation! It has held up extraordinarily well for being nearly 100 yrs old. Semper, Ski
warguy Posted July 10, 2017 Share #5 Posted July 10, 2017 Very nice image. Collar ega's went into use in 1922 so early 1920's is correct on the date. The 1922 pattern hat came into play that time frame and this one is a bell crown so before that transition rolled out. 1922, 1923 image IMO. Very nice, Kevin.
