Brig Posted July 8, 2017 Share #1 Posted July 8, 2017 Trying to help a Marine learn more about a relative's unit during WWII. What they know is their relative served during the war with a comm unit with Code Talkers assigned to it, and served on Iwo Jima. The photo identifies the unit as 5th Division Reconaissance unit, and of course may not be the unit he was with on Iwo. Anyone know anything about this unit? bobgee Posted July 8, 2017 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2017 Howdy Brig. Great photo. As always, a name will help the Forum's expert researchers. Hope all is well in your CP. S.F. Bob
usmcski Posted July 8, 2017 Share #3 Posted July 8, 2017 Some Native American-looking Marines in there; could this be a Code Talker unit? They were assigned to all six Marine Divisions during the war, after all... Semper, Ski
Brig Posted July 9, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted July 9, 2017 Awaiting a name to run through the rolls, but figured someone might know about the unit in the meantime I agree, quite possibly code talkers based off the known history
