cwnorma Posted February 16, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2007 Here are some trench Knives: The top knife is the LF&C with extra pyramid, The middle is a standard LF&C, and the Bottom is the OCL knife This is a close-up of the OCL markings
cwnorma Posted February 16, 2007 Author Share #2 Posted February 16, 2007 Here are some more. The OCL knife is included again for comparison sake. The top knife is a standard ACCo knife, the middle the OCL again, and the bottom is an unmarked ACCo or HDS knife.
Greg Robinson Posted February 16, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 16, 2007 Nice collection of trench knives. I'm curious why you say an unmarked one might be made by Henry Disston.
cwnorma Posted February 16, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted February 16, 2007 One more group Top knife is a standard ACC, the middle knife is the unmarked knife, and the bottom knife is a "theater" made knife. As you can see, there is no marking on the inside of the guard on this knife. Nor is there any marking on the guard near the ricasso. This unmarked knife is a mystery. It is similar, but not identical to the ACC knife. I don't have a marked HDS knife to compare it to, but it seems to compare well with photographs of an HDS knife on Frank Tzraska's website: http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/amewm_18.htm Cheers! cwnorma Posted February 16, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted February 16, 2007 Thanks for asking! The reason I say it might be Disston is that it is similar, but not identical to the ACC knife. For example, the handles of all the ACC knifes I have are 28 mm at the widest point, the handle of the unmarked knife is 26 mm. The guard of an ACC knife is 25.5mm, and the unmarked knife is 26.25 mm. Finally, the configuration of the flanges on the outside of the guard are somewhat different from the ACC knives. I sent the same pictures to Frank Trzaska and he wasn't sure either way, but commented that he had seen unmarked ACC knives before. Another theory is that this knife is a prototype piece. Like I said, it's a mystery. I would love to side by side compare it with a HDS knife, but alas, I haven't found one yet! Who knows, maybe its the heretofore unseen A.A. Simons knife... Now wouldn't that be something! Cheers! Chris Nice collection of trench knives. I'm curious why you say an unmarked one might be made by Henry Disston.
