WWII USMC Dog Tags

Hello all,

Just thought I'd post my latest dog tag find. I picked these up yesterday and was told he was a local vet, so I went to the library and was able to get a newspaper clipping with his photo and his obituary. That's about all I know about him so far. His obituary just said he served in the Marine Corps, and I must be doing something wrong with the muster rolls on Ancestry because I haven't found him on there yet. I was really happy to find these because I never find USMC tags. I have a couple hundred WWII tags but only three are USMC, and he was a local to boot! I'll probably break down and order his file through Golden Arrow but in the meantime if anyone has any USMC resources they could share I'd appreciate any help researching this Marine :)

Thanks,

-Ryan

He was possibly in a tank battalion and enlisted 10/14/1943. Haven't found anything anything else yet. There are several Thompson's listed as far back as 1942 and all are in different Marine groups. Nice tags.

I found him at Paris Island in April 1944 but nothing that shows where he ended up and his service number ended up not match the tank battalion. He is very hard to track because of the common name.

Thanks, James :)

I appreciate you taking the time to try and find him in the muster rolls. I'm glad it's not just me that couldn't find much on him. It looks like I may just have to order his service records to get any information on him.
