Manchu Warrior Posted June 29, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2017 These two are pretty huge and they measure about 8" across the base and have a large screw in where the primer would be and they are quite heavy. They also have black rubber or plastic caps on the top and thy have no markings at all on the bottom. Are they practice rounds of some type? Any information would be appreciated. Taber10 Posted June 29, 2017 Share #3 Posted June 29, 2017 While the terms can be less than precise in some uses, these would be DRILL rounds, not PRACTICE rounds. While I am not aware of any specific rules for this nomemclature, normally these were used to "practice" the handling, loading, etc. of the artillery piece, originally known as "drill of the piece" while in MOST cases, practice rounds would be used to "practice" actual aiming or laying and firing of the artillery piece, and would often have live propellant, live spotting charges, or in a few cases, even live LOW explosive charges to simulate the "real" round. DRILL rounds are usually totally inert, with no energetic material whatsoever. Again, there may be exceptions, but these two are totally inert--don't have and never had any live components whatsoever. Hope this helps
