fairbro Posted June 28, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 28, 2017 Does anyone know if this might be a fake? I noticed that most of the Dog Tags or ID's of this era were round, but this is oval. I googled it but can find nothing in this shape. It's from central Kansas estate sale Thanks for help! Is it correct that F.A. would be "Field Artillery"? USdog Posted June 28, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2017 100% good. It's an ID bracelet not a dog tag.
fairbro Posted June 28, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted June 28, 2017 100% good. It's an ID bracelet not a dog tag. Thanks for letting me know it is ID bracelet. Is there any way to look up any more details about the person? Some kind of logbook with a list of people serving? At the auction someone told me that family was well-known in the local area. It appears he was in HQ, I am interested to find out if he was a high-ranking officer. At the auction, this ID bracelet was attached to a silver ring. I wasn't paying attention and the item was sold. Later, the buyer accepted $20 for the bracelet, because I haven't ever seen anything like it, and I like unique items like this, but he kept the ring. kfields Posted June 28, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 28, 2017 Yes he was a member of the 88th Division. The division made it to France before the end of the war but not into combat. The bracelet looks like a French style Id Bracelet so maybe your guy had it made up in France. Here is a French bracelet for comparison (soldiers name is on the other side): Kim

fairbro Posted June 29, 2017 Author Share #8 Posted June 29, 2017 Ship: Empseis Of Britla Ship: SIBONEY Odd names for ships! So he was a private, not an officer. I got this in a rural area of Kansas about 100 miles south of Olathe, but a century ago, Olathe only had 3000 people, it was sleepy town until the 1960's, today it is 120,000, suburbs and malls. They probably moved when the city began to encroach. Thanks so much for all the information! Very interesting.
