bryang Posted June 26, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 26, 2017 I spent $10 and picked up a sheaf of scrap book materials, which had been kept by someone who worked in Oak Ridge, Tennessee during the Second World War. What caught my attention was a copy of a memo released to the workers at Oak Ridge, from the Under Secretary of War the day just after the first atomic bomb detonation over Hiroshima in August 1945. In the memo, the Under Secretary complimented the Oak Ridge workers for having maintained secrecy on their portion of the project. There are a number of local newspaper clippings glued to the pages, each detailing some facet of the work at Oak Ridge. These items are from Henry and Madie McElroy, and include Henry's fuel ration card, as well as photos. I was pleased to find this, as it has a tie to my home state of Tennessee, and I feel that these pages represent a significant piece of our Nation's history.
