What is a correct VN era M-16 sling?

Bought a Colt SP-1 at the Show of Shows in February. Since I will never own a fully auto VN era M-16, this gun will be the closest thing I will own representative of that conflict. Can anyone tell me what I should be looking for in an authentic rifle sling for that era?

Thanks,

Jim

Here's my SP1/2 (SP1 with an A2 barrel) with the sling as mentioned. Faded almost gold. Came from the CMP on a Garand years ago.

The "gold" slings were seen on the M14 as well.

The slings could vary as I see the old cotton OD on M16s as well that were garand slings.

This was posted in a topic today on modified jackets.

Guess this comes down to time frame or what you prefer.Im thinking there were exceptions and variation an what ever was at hand was used

Yep, need to find a nylon sling as pictured. I found a NOS sling I used on my retro build about 10 years ago.

Good luck with your search.

earlier M16 601 rifles used a canvas sling with a sewn on buckle. These are fairly collectable if you can find them
