Here is a photograph of my Great Great Grandfather Albert. I believe he was a medic during the First World War. As I am told he was caught in a gas attack on the front without his mask. He thankfully survived but suffered major breathing/lung problems for the rest of his life. He didnt live very long after the war, most likely due to his medical issues.

I do not know anything about WWI insignia and I am very interested in his rank and I cannot identify anything on his uniform. I hope u guys can help me with this and please contact me with information.

Thanks! :D

From what I can make out your photograph is reversed as the insignia on the right arm is actually on the left arm. The photograph has been colorized and you never know if the person colorizing the photograph got the colors right or was just guessing. So the lower point down chevron looks like a single overseas stripe indicating 6 months service overseas. The upper point up chevron looks like a discharge stripe. I'm not an expert on WW1 shoulder sleeve patches but if the colors are right it might be 40th Division. Just a guess but the colors are right unless of course the person colorizing the photograph got it wrong. As for the two ribbons I have no idea as there just isn't enough detail in your scan.

I agree with iron bender. Under magnification the eagle is quite clearly visible, though reversed as stated above. Definitely II Corps. MHJ
