Hi,

I bought this helmet off eBay and I was wondering what era it's from.

It appears to be late war but I'd like to know what you think ?

Thanks for your help

Matthias

Hi

I'm not really sure what that 4 represents but it looks very fresh IMHO , it can't have seen much sunlight.
With regards to the medics cross, whenever I see scraping , or scratch marks right across it when the rest of the helmet is near mint it normally is a good indication of false ageing.
These technics are used by the forgers a lot, if this is original it never saw much use.
There is little to no discolouration,
Also with regards to the cross I see a rust mark In the corner but the rest looks rust free, could be an ageing technique
Probably more questions than answers here but to me it looks off

Best
Dean

If you could post some close-up shots of the scratches on the cross, and some of the '4' it'd be much easier to tell.  I think it stands a good chance at being a KW/late-50s use base medic helmet, due the use of spraypaint and the lack of wear.

I saw a similar helmet that was definitely original. I think this has to be from the same unit. I'd have no problem with it if it were mine. Probably a helmet that was used in the last days of the war.

close ups have provided it looks better, I'm
Still not sure this saw any real use or why the painted sections show deep scratches and the rest of the helmet shows little to no wear. Maybe this was a rear echelon unit , Maybe.

Interesting, one of our forum members has a similar helmet except it has a "3" stenciled instead of a "4"
