beerdragon54 Posted June 15, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2017 He died when he was 44 yo and my wife never got a chance to meet him. His wife just passed in her 90's and everyone thought all his military stuff was long gone. These couple pictures were found and we are very excited. He received the Purple Heart, CIB, Good Conduct medal, etc. His name was John W. Riff and his discharge was once found and said he served from 7/24/44-5/5/46. It appeared he arrived in January 1945 for combat. He was an automatic rifleman, infantry. The pictures show him an MP, must be during the occupation. doyler Posted June 15, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2017 Nice pics. Not uncommon to see a wounded soldier reassigned to another job. Also depending on the time frame he may have not been needed to go back to a line unit if the war was over and having low points may have been kept on as a MP.Points were based typically on how long someone was overseas and being wounded added points to.
