smwinter207 Posted June 13, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2017 I've had this tag for a while. Finally found his unit on the 1963 USS Princeton. He was with the HMM-163, when they secured a couple of the VN airfields. You can read his experiences in his letter home in the paper, and the Units actual history. smwinter207 Posted June 13, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted June 13, 2017 In March 1965, there was a famous photo of HMM-163 in a firefight over the Que Son Valley. The pilot who died was Magel from Lemay, MO.
smwinter207 Posted June 13, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted June 13, 2017 I might be way off here, but this is a closeup of the HMM-163 group meeting before a mission in the Time Magazine article. The guy peaking out has a similar face and nose as Theil? Might be off though.
