cerick1450 Posted June 10, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 10, 2017 Hello Does anyone know what this hat insignia is? It belonged to a Woman that entered the service in the WAAC in 1943, and then switched to the American Red Cross in the ETO. The cap is not in the best shape. David Minton Posted June 10, 2017 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2017 I believe it is an enlisted Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) insignia, worn before the transformation to the Women’s Army Corps (WAC), which was mid 1943.

Lee Ragan Posted June 10, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2017 These badges are NOT common. It and the larger officers version are commonly called the "Walking Buzzard".

Dorothy Posted June 12, 2017 Share #9 Posted June 12, 2017 It's Women's Army Auxiliary Corps insignia to Hobby Hat. It was weared with WAAC Winter Service Uniform. Winter WAAC hats are not very common. It's not great condition but also not so bad. Do you know what size? I think that you will quickly find a customer. If it is 1943 it will be really early 1943. On September 1 1943 insignia were different. For example here you have a picture Wacs in this hat - https://www.facebook.com/womensarmycorpsww2/photos/a.244090942631200.1073741834.243146526058975/335139890192971/?type=3&theater. CombatEng44 Posted June 15, 2017 Share #14 Posted June 15, 2017 Most common price for the EM WAAC Insignia is around $50 in excellent condition. I've seen them SELL more in the $40 range lately. The hat is less common. The WAAC Cap WITH insignia in average condition might be around $100-$135 depending where the problems are. The moth holes could not be on a worse spot(rim) but can be made to appear better with some detail work. It's been squashed for a while, too. Size 22-22.5 is the most common. I've bought and sold many of these and it is just my opinion. An extremely nice and identified one went for $350 last year. Hard to say in this market. Throw it out and see what happens! Ok. It's not the best but I'd buy it in a heart beat to pair up with another uniform for display. Always a nice find and thanks for sharing.
