KumaKuma Posted June 8, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2017 This patch has me stumped. Anyone know the identification on it? Velcro back. Measures about 3 1/2 inches wide and 4 1/4 Inches tall. Have searched the motto: "In The Dirt/Under The Fog" and come up with squat. Ditto with Crew 4. Appreciate any help given.
Salvage Sailor Posted June 8, 2017 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2017 Is that a SPECTRE gunship patch? (non-PC too)
KumaKuma Posted June 8, 2017 Author Share #3 Posted June 8, 2017 Salvage, Sure looks like a AC-130 Gunship for sure. Hopefully that narrows it down some. Not sure what "non-PC" refers to though? Private Contractor? My ignorance is showing.

vintageproductions Posted June 8, 2017 Share #5 Posted June 8, 2017 It's a VQ squadron, but don't have my reference handy. Maybe VQ-1 crew four.
Patchcollector Posted June 8, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 8, 2017 Looks like a Combat Talon piece to me
KumaKuma Posted June 8, 2017 Author Share #7 Posted June 8, 2017 Salvage, Thanks for the PM. Found the non-PC variations thread. Had not noticed the legs spread on the lower part of the patch, looked like just wings to me until you brought it to my attention. Sharp eye Sir. Getting some good information from everyone replying. Teamski Posted June 8, 2017 Share #8 Posted June 8, 2017 Looks like a Combat Talon piece to me I agree here, I think it is a Combat Talon II crew patch.... Ahhh.... sure enough, Looking it up, I see a similar patch online attributable to the 17th SOS, MC-130P Combat Shadows (now MC-130J's) https://www.picclickimg.com/d/l400/pict/162394962798_/USAF-17th-SOS-SPECIAL-OPERATIONS-SQUADRON-CREW-4-PATCH.jpg -Ski

Mark1 Posted June 9, 2017 Share #10 Posted June 9, 2017 The Crew 4 patch belongs to one of the Squadrons of the 374th Tactical Airlift Wing renamed in 1992 to the 374th Airlift Wing. They were out of Clark AB, Philippines until 1989 then moved to Yokota AB, Japan. The patch is a C-130 Hercules SOLL "Special Operations Low Level" patch. KumaKuma Posted June 9, 2017 Author Share #11 Posted June 9, 2017 Teamski, Yup, except for the motto on the upper/lower tabs it's the same patch. Salvage Sailor pointed out the non-PC element and his suggestion is that it was an inside joke amongst the crew.
