I just got back from setting up some of my home front flags at the historic Wadsworth Library at the VA Soldiers home in Milwaukee. The VA is celebrating 150 years this weekend. I'll post some more pics of the whole display (the tables never came tonight). Saturday only event if anyone is near by.

Very nice, Jerry. I especially like the Army/Navy E Production flags. Do you happen to know to whom they were awarded?

Regards,

Charlie

Thanks! I only have a couple that I know for sure who they were awarded to. One small size one from the lunch room of a Jeep plant, and one from a small company from here in WI, and one from MN.

Great job a lot of hard work but one subject that is not well known and should be brought to the Forefront.

Fantastic display, any one of these flags could be the focal point of any collection but I have to say your Rock Island Lines banner is killer.

The Milwaukee VA used to have a living history event called "Reclaiming our Heritage" I believe...not sure if they're still doing that. I've been wanting to get up there and see their campus...Milwaukee, Togus (Maine) and our campus (Dayton, OH) were the first three to be built under the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers system...

I'm jealous of all those Army-Navy E flags....still haven't had one walk in the door!

Thanks guys! It is awesome to be able to display some of my flags the way they were meant to be seen (mostly). The VA's Reclaiming Our Heritage event was really awesome but was put on a hiatus a few years ago as the VA here had a bunch of construction happening. New parking lots, parking ramp and a spine center for the recent veterans. That is really their main mission, so the old administration left some of the old historic Victorian buildings in disrepair. Thankfully the old site has been placed on the historic landmark register or something, and it looks like eventually some of them will be restored and re purposed. This event is a small shadow of what it used to be. But it is still a great event on a great historic site.

That was a WWI era one. I have seen it done in oil cloth as well as the larger cotton one that I have. i actually have good variety of "welcome home" banners in my collection.

Thanks, It was a lot of work and hot and humid hauling, but it was worth it.

here's a few more pics of some pre & CW and WW1 things we also set up.

Very nice display Jerry! The only thing I would have liked more, would have been to see it all in person. I can see the hard work paid off, it is great.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thanks, in my perfect world I would have had title cards by each artifact/uniform, but at least I was there all day to talk to people ( I must have explained the "Caltrop" about 200 times...). But I did have a list of the flags so people could ID them.

Jerry, Thanks for adding the additional photos. What a great display!

I have a similar "Our Heroes" banner also and have been looking for information on them. The closest that I could find is a photo taken of a parade in NYC. IIRC, it is in the inside cover of the unit history Harlem Hellfighters.
