Mr.Jerry Posted June 2, 2017 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2017 I just got back from setting up some of my home front flags at the historic Wadsworth Library at the VA Soldiers home in Milwaukee. The VA is celebrating 150 years this weekend. I'll post some more pics of the whole display (the tables never came tonight). Saturday only event if anyone is near by. mvmhm Posted June 3, 2017 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2017 The Milwaukee VA used to have a living history event called "Reclaiming our Heritage" I believe...not sure if they're still doing that. I've been wanting to get up there and see their campus...Milwaukee, Togus (Maine) and our campus (Dayton, OH) were the first three to be built under the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers system... Mr.Jerry Posted June 3, 2017 Author Share #10 Posted June 3, 2017 Thanks guys! It is awesome to be able to display some of my flags the way they were meant to be seen (mostly). The VA's Reclaiming Our Heritage event was really awesome but was put on a hiatus a few years ago as the VA here had a bunch of construction happening. New parking lots, parking ramp and a spine center for the recent veterans. That is really their main mission, so the old administration left some of the old historic Victorian buildings in disrepair. Thankfully the old site has been placed on the historic landmark register or something, and it looks like eventually some of them will be restored and re purposed. I have seen it done in oil cloth as well as the larger cotton one that I have. i actually have good variety of "welcome home" banners in my collection. What a great display! I have a similar "Our Heroes" banner also and have been looking for information on them. The closest that I could find is a photo taken of a parade in NYC.
