Fake or recent issue USN MK2s?

Curious about the number of guard marked USN MK2s on ebay lately. One fellow seems to put a new one on each week. Is there and info about fakes or are there recent issues like the commercial USMC KA-BARs? (The MK2s are in what seems to be the correct Nord scabbard)

I have noticed that too------ especially Camillus made knives. I do see the repro marine but, to me it seems the navy marked are ok. I have bought loads of them and many are excel to mint shape.

I have yet to see a reproduction guard marked 1219C2 knife. Or a blade marked Navy one made to resemble the WW2 issued knives.

This appears to be a cyclic phenomenon; I remember some years ago when there were a lot of the guard marked Mark 2s, especially Camillus. You could get really nice ones for $50 or so, all in the Nord scabbard. Then they seemed to have become scarce, and prices went up. The current crop seems to be a reaction to the increase in what buyers are willing to pay for nice ones.

Also remember The USN version was one of the most produced knives of the war.New old stock was still showing up in Vietnam....One of my brother in laws served on the Teddy Roosevelt around 1974 time frame.He normally worked the flight deck.On a off day he was detailed to help clean out some storage.He said the detail spent the better part of the day dumping stuff over board.He spoke of WW2 machetes as he recalled seeing dates on the crates.Several cases of weapons items to include Thompson sub machine gun mags, webb belts etc.He also said there were cases of "kabars" tossed over board.He kinda regretted not taking a couple as some guys were doing but he wasnt a collector.They were told not to keep items but some did.This was "excess" inventory someone decided it was to be disposed of.

 

Even knew a couple guys who sourced them for Desert Storm who were Navy.One guy I went to high school with and saw a pallet of the knives in a whare house in San Diego.Makes you wonder how many may be out there still waiting to be found (or scrapped)

 

I bought two Mk1 Navy knves by Pal and they came out of a Civil Defense locker about 5 years ago.

They made a lot of the Mk2 knives.

I am always amazed at how many NOS are still out there.

 

A few years ago I met with a vet who was a quartermaster.

He had a footlocker with a few dozen NOS knives and sheaths still

in the cosmoline paper.

So they are out there.

"Teddy" Roosevelt wasn't commissioned until 1984..maybe CVA-42, the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt?
