Tonomachi Posted May 30, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2017 This sure does look like one of the earlier USS Grayback submarine patches yet the lettering on it says it is a destroyer patch the DDR 830 USS E. F. Larson. Is this an error patch or something else?
zsmith Posted May 31, 2017 Share #2 Posted May 31, 2017 It's definitely a Grayback patch. Even the motto 'De Profundis Futurus' belongs to the Grayback.
firefighter Posted June 1, 2017 Share #3 Posted June 1, 2017 As ZMITH stated, a Grayback insignia. My guess is that some shop had this design as a generic/blank patch and someone had their ships name added. The Larson was an anti-sub ship so maybe they thought it would be funny? Either way I like it. Definitely unique.
Tonomachi Posted June 1, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted June 1, 2017 I tried to come up with some sort of connection between the submarine and destroyer but couldn't find anything. Thanks for your input.

Youre welcome. Just one of those weird things that only that sailor may know.Try seeing if there is a LARSON site with former shipmates. You maybe able to contact someone for info.
