Brass trench art North Afrika bullet letter opener Bizerte 1944

I found this brass bullet letter opener yesterday at a junk shop. It is typical of brass letter openers that GIs would buy though it has swatstikas and an iron cross on it. I think GIs were suckers for this stuff at bazaars.

Its an Iron Cross, they made stuff for the Germans as well, anything to make a buck! If you notice Afrika is spelled in German not Africa as in English. So this could have been taken from a German as well. Very cool item.

The Swastika in the sun is a nice detail.

 

What is the other markigs on the base of the bullet case?

 

42 is the date and cant tell the rest in the photos

Cool item, I would have bought in if I were there in '44. You should see the crap I sent home from Afghanistan. Like Doylar mentioned, nice touch with the setting NAZI sun.
