RustyCanteen

I was browsing the Internet Movie Database today when I found a pleasant surprise, it seems there is a Vietnam USAF film currently in the works, telling the story of William Pitsenbarger (who was awarded the MOH). For those who may be unfamiliar with Pitsenbarger's story, here is a his wiki article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Pitsenbarger

"34-years after his death, Airman William H. Pitsenbarger, Jr. ("Pits") is awarded the nations highest military honor for his actions on the battlefield. One of the great untold stories of the Vietnam era."

This looks like a star-studded film, so it should be a good one.

So Others May Live

I am hopeful that it does accurately portray the dangers and heroism of these men. From the write-up on the IMDB, I believe the film must be set in the year 2000, with flashbacks set in 1966.

Some real life photos of William Pitsenbarger:

  • 4 months later...

The IMDB page for this film says it is in 'Post-Production', so perhaps this will be a 2018 release?

They also have a movie poster up, although it shows a UH 'Huey' instead of the HH-43 'Pedro' Pitsenbarger flew his last mission on. There probably are not a great many surviving HH-43 airframes out there.
