Jeffthebutcher Posted May 23, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 23, 2017 Hi everyone, So I was involved (bidding/watching)in an auction for army DUI pins. Out of nowhere the auction is cancelled. I asked the auction company why and the sent me the Stolen Valor act of 2013. I am so sick that they used this to justify closing the auction. I just wanted to rant and see if others have had this happen to them? Thanks Jeff

It is a complete misreading of the law because the law was poorly conceived and extremely poorly written; so much so, that an addendum of sorts was released shortly after clarifying that the buying, selling and trading of all federal medals and insignia was illegal IF there is an intent to deceive. The exception of course is the MOH........ -Ski

Jeffthebutcher Posted May 23, 2017 Author Share #4 Posted May 23, 2017 Yes it was an online auction and not eBay. I explained to them about the law and also asked what they did with the items. I'll post the response if and when I receive one.
cutiger83 Posted May 23, 2017 Share #5 Posted May 23, 2017 There are all sorts of reasons why an auction company might close an auction. There was probably another reason that they did not want to disclose so they used the Stolen Valor Act as one of convenience rather than truth. ....Kat
Jeffthebutcher Posted May 25, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted May 25, 2017 So just to update. They did give me the run around. All sorts of excuses, including that they were holding the items to give to the local AMVETS. I told them that's great and I am a member so I'll put a call in to make sure the items get handled good. Then the communication stoped. What I really think happened is they sold it out the back door. Very unethical in my opinion.
Bob Hudson Posted May 25, 2017 Share #7 Posted May 25, 2017 Was it ebay? It would be scary if they started banning something as common as DUI's...
