WWII Airborne Glider Infantry Overseas Hat with a hidden surprise

I was looking at the reverse stitching on this overseas hat and saw what appeared to be some remnant of the fabric. Upon closer inspection however, I determined it was a small feather that had been inserted into the material behind the patch. Not a monumental discovery, but it's interesting that the owner mounted a feather inside of a glider hat and it's still there after 70+ years. Was this a common practice by glider troops?

Thanks for the feedback guys!

Sometimes it's the personal touches which connect us to the heroes who owned these items,

making them that much more special.
