I have what appears to be a totally original 1954 Camillus M4 (full leather v groove handle,no bomb.)

with a Hemphill H shield stamped butt plate.

I know that Hemphill was a supplier to Imperial

Can anyone throw light on date and quantities supplied to Camillus

If I can figure out how I will post some pictures

Thanks

I have a Hemphill on my rubber handled Camillus M4 that my father brought back from the Korean War ('52-'53).

That is a remarkable find. Very unusual. I assume that the guard is the post war style with the post war Camillus markings. The only explanation I can think of is that Camillus picked up some of the Imperial left overs after the war. How does the rest of the bayonet look? That is just phenomenal. Thanks for showing it. I really doubt that anyone will come up with the quantities supplied to Camillus. There can't be many more out there.

Thanks again for showing this. It does not show any signs of tampering, however, the markings on the cross guard do not seem right. The stamping itself is what concerns me. It is very heavy and the letters in "CAMILLUS" should not be touching each other. The correct markings that I have seen, all look like the pictures I am posting. It's still a great piece, but others should confirm its legitimacy.

Could we consider the possibility of the Imperial plant being used to fulfill some quantity of the Camillus contract? That would be a possible explanation for both the hemphill plate and a difference in the guard marking.

Check out Ebay item # 152556714404. Postwar Camillus M4 with Standard Products pommel originating from a seller in NY. Looks good but not 100% good.

Is it just me, or does it look like the latch plate was carved out to fit the peen? It's just weird. The leather handle is not right where it meets the cross guard. Why are these different latch plates showing up all of a sudden? Sum Ting Wong
