A few patches

Are these from the 1930's? I'm told they are but wanted to make sure. Just not used to seeing patches that old that look this good. They are absolutely mint. No glow on any of them when black lighted either. .. I'll have to post twice to show all of the photographs

There are 8 in total and I'm also not sure what some are. I've seen some that are similar to ones I've seen in the little book titled U.S. Military Shoulder Patches of the U.S. Armed Forces 5th Edition by Jack Britton & George Washington Jr.

1. post-168165-0-44996800-1494129532.jpg 5th Q.M. Regt. (Mech.)??? Mine is a little different that the one in the book because it has the colored globe under the eagle.

2. post-168165-0-72058500-1494129533.jpg 19th Ordnance Troop (Mech.)??? Mine is more of a purplish color when the one in the book is more red and has a yellow border. So I'm guessing this is a different ordnance troop than the 19th.

3. post-168165-0-66936900-1494129534.jpg 13th Cav. Regt. (Mech.)??? Pretty much just like the one shown in the book mentioned.

4. post-168165-0-27815600-1494129536.jpg 1st Cav. Regt. (Mech.)?? Just like one shown in book as well.

5. post-168165-0-32504300-1494129537.jpg Q.M. Regt.????? Don't see one like this in the book and none have a white colored patch.

See my reply to this for the other 3 and a few of the backs so you know what they look like.

6. post-168165-0-95796300-1494130417.jpg F.A. Bn. ??? The book shows one but it has a yellow bolt and no border color.

7. post-168165-0-91591200-1494130418.jpg 68th F.A. Bn.?? Looks like the one in the book.

8. post-168165-0-83387900-1494130419.jpg 19th Ordnance Troop?? Looks like the one pictured in the book but mine has purple background instead of reddish color like the one shown.

9. post-168165-0-89419000-1494130416.jpg backs all are similar to this one. Have photographs of each one but only allowed to post so many times per day. Can provide them if needed.

Thanks everyone for any help and information you can give me on all of these patches.

The patches were all made the day before the pix were taken. Here are a few of period originals. The orange background, not gold, not yellow, is important to remember. Note: there are patches with a black 7 on them. They too, are fakes, not repros. No 7th Mech Bde patches were ever worn with a 7 on them. The red 1 for 1st Cav Regt is the only legitimately numbered cavalry patch. The 68th FA Regt also is numbered.

Also note the wavy embr pattern on the 47th Engr Troop and 19th Ord Troop, and the wool to which they are embr. Search melton wool on this site and see what you can learn.

The day-glo pink color should be the first negative you would think about! The first chance you see a real one up close, study it well. Even real ones that are unused look old. Use this site and join ASMIC to learn all you can. An always growing library is the next step. Knowledge of your subject will take you far.

One thing I forgot to mention is that all of Britton and Washington's books are to be used for ID only. They used a lot of repros when they could not find period originals. They didn't tell you that in any of the books. Again, the books were for ID purposes, only.

Alright thanks for all of the information. I didn't think that they were real just because of how "new" they looked.. Like it was stated, even unused old should still look old.. I remember maybe 4 or 5 years ago I sold one of these patches on ebay thinking they were Korea period etc and sold it for around $50 .. must be they didn't know what you've just told me about these patches. I had listed them in unknown period and stated that it didn't glow and wasn't sure how old they were. Never got any complaint etc from the buyer and feel bad about it now but we honestly didn't know anything about the patch. We just thought someone may purchase it for $3-5 .. Thanks again everyone for the information. I'm sure that my father was a member of ASMIC at one time as I've come across quite a few of your publications lately .. they are packed full of information and I believe that anyone who has interest or collects insignia should become a member, like yesterday.

Add Morgan and Stern to that list! Make this a lesson that many repros do not glow!
