WWI/WWII photograph, Army or Boy Scouts?

Hello! I found this photo recently and was wondering if it was a pre WWII soldier, or if it was just a botscout. It looks like he has M1917 leggings on, but I am unsure of his other gear. Thanks. Pic coming.

Not Boy Scouts. If he were, he'd have unit insignia on his shoulders, and most likely, a rank patch on the shirt pocket. Also, he looks a bit old for Boy Scouts. Probably just some new Army shavetail.

Just asked my dad, turns out he was my great great uncle who fought in the army in the PTO. He brought home a Japanese pistol but he had undiagnosed PTSD and shot himself after the war (not with the Japanese pistol). No one in my family knows what happened to his Militaria or pistol, unfortunately. Still cool to have this!
